Why hemp and not synthetic?

This question should be asked for anything, really like clothing and food. But this time, we’ll be talking about dog collars, leashes, harnesses,… Because we all want the best for our four legged friend, right?

So why should you choose hemp dog collar and not a synthetic one, or even one of those colorful fabric ones? There are quite a few advantages of buying hemp versus nylon or cotton. I’ll go over some of them with you.

No allergies!

Hemp is known for its hypo-allergenic properties. This is perfect for very sensitive dogs (or cats), who easily develop allergies due to chemicals found in synthetic materials, and even cotton (dye and pesticides, used for growing cotton). Of course, hemp dog gear isn’t only suitable for sensitive pets. Every dog or cat has a right to a non toxic collar.

Eco friendly!

Unlike cotton and nylon, hemp is so much more Earth friendly. Hemp is grown without any use of pesticides and fungicides because the plant itself is very resistant to diseases, extreme weather, pests,…When the hemp collar becomes old, damaged or simply unusable, the base hemp webbing can be separated from other parts. This hemp webbing will then decompose naturally! Other parts can be recycled or reused.

Comfortable!

With time, your hemp collar will mold to your dogs neck and also get super soft and comfortable. It won’t stay stiff and scratchy like the nylon ones. It also won’t transfer any colour to your dogs fur, because here at Hempchewer we use only natural hemp and not dyed! All of the cute designs on the collar are ribbons sewn on to the webbing.

So these are some of the advantages of hemp dog collars. I kept it short for now, but I could go on forever, so maybe there will be a part two!

Because I want the best for not just mine, but all of the animals out there, I prepared a coupon code for 10% off any Hempchewer collar or leash on www.hempchewer.com! Use this code when in checkout: HEMPBLOG16

Until next time,

I made pupcakes

EDIT: I was not vegan when I made this recipe, and if I make it now, I make the pupcakes completely vegan! Just sub non vegan ingredients with vegan ones (flax instead of eggs, maple syrup instead of honey,…) and they should be fine!

Nope, it’s not a typo.

Pupcakes are cupcakes for your pup! Tara turned 11 on 18th of July, so I figured I would make her a little treat. For the pupcakes I used:

2 cups ground oats
1/2 tbsp baking powder
1 tbsp cinnamon
2 tsp honey
1 egg
1 cup water
1/2 apple cubed
1/2 mashed banana

Preheat the oven to about 150°C.
First, mix your dry ingredients (oats, baking powder, cinnamon). In another bowl mix your wet ingredients (water, egg, honey and mashed banana). Add the dry ingredients into wet ones slowly and mix until you get smooth batter. Fold in your cubed apple and fill the muffin tin (this amount of batter fills tin with 12 medium compartments). Put in the oven for about 15 minutes or test if the pupcakes are ready with a toothpick – stick one toothpick into the pupcake and pull it out. If it is clean, they are ready, if not, give them a couple more minutes. Cool them down and there you have it – homemade treat for your doggy (or even a human, I might have eaten 1…or 3).

If you want, you can make frosting as well. I made mine with a little bit of yogurt and almond butter, mixed it together and put it on one pupcake with a knife. For decoration I used 3 blueberries. Tara loved it.

Hello

I have a blog now. Which took me ages to put up. Not the actual blog, but the first blog post. Writing is hard! Especially if you have so much to write about. Or nothing to write about. It’s overwhelming, that’s what I meant. I worried about wether it’s going to be good enough (whatever that means), or interesting enough for you to read. Well that doesn’t matter anymore now, does it? I am writing it now.

But first I have to introduce myself I guess. Here we go.

I am a 24 year old human, I like dinners on the beach and long walks in the rain. No just kidding. I am a human tho. I also make hemp dog gear. Collars, leads, toys, all that stuff. I started this business because I love dogs (animals in general actually) and hemp. Hemp is the shizz, well I think it is. Maybe you do too. If not, I will make you! Hopefully I can make more people love hemp because of its super powers. Hemp is my God. Altho I am an atheist so that’s not really the case.

A hemp lead I made, called Hipster II

Anyway, I want to share my thoughts about things that interest me, things I know something about, things I want to get to know better,…So please, if you are interested to read and see more, please do come back soon or subscribe to my blog at the top of this site.

I wonder if all of the above made any sense. Sorry, I’m new to this (that’s what she said heh).

Thank you 🙂
